Five Barrel Brewing is a family-owned and operated brewery in heart of Wollongong focused on producing the best quality beer and building a great reputation for it.  With twelve rotating taps in our taproom, our head brewers are always inventing and perfecting new limited-release beers along with our know and loved core range classics.

Our brewing process is focused on sustainability and supporting local businesses. We believe in fresh craft beer, unfiltered, unpasteurised and with great quality ingredients. We service our local community through creating a meeting place inclusive of everyone.

Lunch Box Lager

  • Style: Lager
  • ABV: 4.0%

Lagers are light and clean, with a delicate balance between hop and malt. The yeast character is subdued but evident in a well-made, cold fermented lager. We use traditional lager techniques to bring out the best lager characteristics. It is cold fermented, and cold conditioned to give the crisp body you expect from a lager. There is a light and clean hop character, and a dry and refreshing finish.

Pacific-Peak-XPA-1000x1000

Pacific Peak XPA

  • Style: XPA
  • ABV: 4.5%

XPA’s are a relatively new style to the craft beer scene. They are typically lighter than a Pale Ale, but with the same level of hop character. Our XPA uses new world, and old- world hops to add a level of familiarity. There is a wonderful play between tropical fruit and a spicy pithy bitterness. The malt is light and semi-dry to add a layer of sweetness to balance.

Freefall Pale Ale

Our Pale Ale is an Australian twist on a classic American style. This beer typifies the type of session beer we love to drink at Five Barrels. It is light and easy drinking with a good smack of hop flavours and aromas, chased by a light biscuity body. We think that a good Pale Ale has to strike the right balance between the malt and the hops; it can’t be too sweet, but it can’t be too bitter either. It’s all about balance, and we think ours is pretty good.

Little Nipper Hazy IPA

New England IPAs were born out of a need to brew an IPA that focuses solely on hop flavours. It combines a high level of protein and hop oil to create a velvety smooth beer that is hazy, and juicy sweet. Little Nipper uses a variety of hops that enable us to create a beer packed with fresh tropical fruit flavours. We use an English yeast strain to add an extra element of fruit, while keeping the beer rich and juicy.

Navigator Red IPA

  • Style: Red IPA
  • ABV: 6.5%

Darker doesn’t always mean stronger. Red IPA’s usually carry a maltiness that you don’t find with paler styles. The malt character can range from a light caramel to full on rich toffee and toast. It has a wonderful fruit, pine and spice balance that develops on the palate. It has a firm bitterness, but the caramel sweetness rounds it out to ensure your senses aren’t overwhelmed.

Night Cap Milk Stout

Milk Stouts contain the non-fermentable lactose sugar to add a velvety smooth body to a rich roasted beer. These are the original dessert beers and are a perfect way to cap off a meal or just enjoy whenever you please. The rich chocolatey flavour is apparent in the aromatics and follow through to your last sip. A velvety smooth body is sweet, but a subtle bitterness from the roasted grains and the hops helps balance it out to finish well. Enjoy a little warmer and observe how the flavours develop.
